Resident Camp at Camp Thunderbird

Most scouts will tell you the best thing about scouting is camping. The pinnacle of the scouting year is Summer Camp. Our council’s resident camp is at Camp Thunderbird, which is at Summit Lake (about 20 minutes from Olympia.) Summer Camp has three different date options this year: July 14-16, July 17-19, and July 21-23. Our pack will attend the July 17-19 session. You are welcome to attend the others if that doesn’t work with your schedule, but you will need to register yourself. Here is the details about registering for Summer Camp if you are attending the session with the pack.

How much does it cost?
$170/scout. $130/adult Camperships are available through the Pacific Harbors Council for up to 50% of the scout cost. Click here for campership info. Campership deadline for application is May1. Scout’s that earned C-Bucks from Pack 9207 can use them toward adult or child registration.

If I want my child to go, do I need to go?
No, but you are responsible for for finding a responsible adult to go with your child. An adult can only be responsible for 4 scouts. Tigers must have 1:1 ratio. Only scouts and their responsible adult can attend camp. Tag-alongs or siblings are not allowed.

Are there any COVID rules I need to be aware of?
These are the current guidelines for attending camp. Every attendee (adult or child) must be either fully vaccinated (two weeks after your final dose) OR have a negative COVID test within three days prior to attending camp AND self-quarantine three days before camp. Also, all families must bring their own tents. There will be no council furnished tents this year.

I love paperwork, what kind of paperwork can I do?
We will need a registration form (attached below) for every scout and adult attending. The adult and scouts have different registration form. If you do not go with our pack, follow the council given instructions. You will also need to have the BSA Medical form filled out and brought with you to camp. The medical form has to be filled out within the two weeks prior to camp.

What are the deadlines?
For registering with the pack, all payments and forms need to be turned in by May 21. Medical forms must be turned in when arriving at camp and be less that 2 weeks old. Please see the COVID information for those deadlines. Campership application deadline is May 1.

What age of scout may attend?
Tigers (going into 1st grade) and above may attend. Tigers require 1:1 supervision. Other scout may have 4:1 scout to adult supervision.

This post isn’t long enough. What other information can you give us?
Also attached at the bottom of this post is the parent guide to the camp from the council along with an addendum with all sorts of fun COVID information.

I’ve got questions. Where can I get answers?
Feel free to contact Pack 9207 Committee Chair, Brian White at 360-556-0895 or He talks a lot, so it may not be a short answer. I should be timely and accurate, though.
